Discover more than one side of Phong Nha

Spend two days exploring the caves, rivers and forest landscapes of Phong Nha–Ke Bang.

The first day combines the illuminated chambers of Paradise Cave with a more active afternoon at Chay River and Dark Cave. Walk among limestone formations in the morning, then prepare to get wet and muddy as you explore Dark Cave and enjoy river activities.

After dinner and a night at your hotel, continue with a forest walk in the Botanical Garden and a boat journey to Phong Nha Cave.

A balance of sightseeing and activity

This itinerary brings together different experiences without requiring an overnight expedition into the forest. You return to a hotel after the first day and explore each location with the support of your guide.

The programme includes walking, uphill paths, steps and water activities. Individual activities at Dark Cave have separate participation requirements, so please share information about children, swimming ability and any mobility concerns before booking.

Paradise Cave is visited on its standard sightseeing route. Phong Nha Cave is visited by sightseeing boat and on the permitted visitor route. This programme does not include the Paradise Cave 7km adventure or Phong Nha Cave 4,500m kayaking expedition.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dong Hoi – Paradise Cave – Chay River & Dark Cave

Meals included: Lunch and dinner.
08:00 — Pickup in Dong Hoi
Meet your guide at the confirmed hotel or meeting point in Dong Hoi and depart for the Phong Nha–Ke Bang area.
Travel through the countryside as your guide introduces the programme and explains what to prepare for the cave visits and afternoon activities.
Please have breakfast before pickup.
Around 09:30 — Explore Paradise Cave
Arrive at Paradise Cave and continue towards the cave approach area Take the included electric buggy to the approach area, then continue on foot along the uphill path and steps to the cave entrance. Walk uphill and climb the steps to the entrance. Inside, follow approximately the first kilometre of the developed visitor walkway, taking time to appreciate the limestone formations and spacious chambers.
The cave lighting reveals the textures and shapes of stalactites and stalagmites. Follow your guide’s instructions, remain on the walkway and avoid touching the formations.
Around 12:00 — Lunch
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before the afternoon programme.

Early afternoon — Dark Cave and natural mud bath
At Chay River–Dark Cave, change into suitable swimwear and receive the equipment and activity briefing.
Guests who meet the site’s requirements can use the entrance zipline. The team will explain alternative arrangements for anyone unable or unwilling to participate.
Follow your guide into Dark Cave with a helmet and headlamp. Move through the designated wet and muddy passages to experience the natural mud-bath area.
Expect low lighting, uneven surfaces and water exposure throughout this part of the programme.
Around 15:00 — Kayaking and river activities
After leaving the cave, enjoy kayaking on Chay River.
Other river activities may be available according to your confirmed package, operating conditions and individual eligibility.
Change into dry clothing before travelling to your hotel for check-in and a break. Your accommodation location in Phong Nha or Dong Hoi will be confirmed when booking.
Around 18:30 — Dinner and overnight stay
Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
The rest of the evening is free to relax or explore the area around your hotel independently.

Day 2: Botanical Garden – Phong Nha Cave – Dong Hoi

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch.
Morning — Breakfast and checkout
Have breakfast at your hotel and check out at the time advised by your guide.
The team will confirm luggage arrangements before the day’s visits.
Around 09:00 — Phong Nha Botanical Garden
Explore the Botanical Garden on the walking route selected for the group and conditions that day.
Walk beneath the forest canopy and discover the scenery around Gio Waterfall and Golden Lake. Take time to observe the surrounding vegetation and learn about the forest environment.
Wildlife sightings are unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed. Any opportunity to enter the water depends on conditions, site rules and the guide’s assessment.
Wear footwear with good grip, as forest paths and rocks can be slippery.
Around 12:00 — Lunch
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant and rest before the afternoon cave visit.
Around 14:00 — Boat journey to Phong Nha Cave
Board a sightseeing boat and travel along the Son River towards Phong Nha Cave.
Enjoy views of riverside life and the surrounding limestone landscape before entering the cave by boat.
Explore the permitted sightseeing sections, with opportunities to appreciate the underground river and limestone formations. Follow the guide and boat crew’s instructions throughout the visit.
Around 16:00 — Depart for Dong Hoi
After the cave visit, begin the return transfer to Dong Hoi and finish at the original agreed pickup point.
16:00 is the planned departure time from the Phong Nha area, not the arrival time in Dong Hoi. Traffic and the day’s activities can affect the final drop-off time.

Does this include Paradise Cave’s 7km adventure?

No. This programme includes the standard visitor route, approximately the first kilometre inside Paradise Cave.

Will we kayak inside Phong Nha Cave?

No. The Phong Nha Cave visit uses a sightseeing boat. Kayaking takes place on Chay River during the first day.

Can I join if I cannot swim?

Please contact us before booking. The team must assess which Dark Cave and river activities are suitable for you.

Can I skip the zipline?

Tell us in advance. The site team will explain available alternatives and confirm which parts of the programme you can join.

Is the hotel included?
