Discover two different sides of central Vietnam in one journey.

Your first day focuses on the limestone landscapes of Phong Nha–Ke Bang. Walk through the illuminated visitor route at Paradise Cave, then board a sightseeing boat on the Son River to visit Phong Nha Cave.

After a night in Dong Hoi, travel south to explore historical sites around the former DMZ. At Vinh Moc Tunnels, learn about the lives of people who sheltered underground during wartime. Continue to Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River to understand the significance of this former dividing line.

A sightseeing journey with flexible finishing options

This programme suits travellers who want to combine cave scenery with history without joining a strenuous cave expedition.

The visits still involve walking, steps and enclosed passages. Please tell us about mobility concerns or discomfort underground before booking.

The standard programme returns to your original agreed pickup point in Dong Hoi or Phong Nha. An onward transfer to Hue can be requested for an additional fee.

Itinerary

Day 1: Paradise Cave – Phong Nha Cave – Dong Hoi

Meal included: Lunch.
Morning — Pickup in Dong Hoi or Phong Nha
Meet your guide at the agreed pickup point and begin your journey towards Paradise Cave.
The pickup time depends on your accommodation location and will be confirmed before departure. Please have breakfast before joining the tour.
Your guide will introduce the programme and explain the walking involved at each cave.
Explore Paradise Cave
Arrive at Paradise Cave and take the electric buggy to the approach area, Take the included electric buggy to the approach area, then continue on foot along the uphill path and steps to the cave entrance.
Continue on foot along the uphill path and steps to the entrance. Inside, follow approximately the first kilometre of the developed visitor walkway.
Take time to appreciate the limestone formations and spacious chambers. Remain on the designated walkway and avoid touching the formations.
Midday — Lunch
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and rest before the afternoon visit.

Afternoon — Son River boat trip and Phong Nha Cave
Travel to the boat departure area and board a sightseeing boat along the Son River.
Enjoy views of riverside life and the surrounding landscape before entering Phong Nha Cave by boat.
Explore the permitted sightseeing sections with your guide and boat crew. Discover the contrast between the underground river setting and the dry chambers visited earlier at Paradise Cave.
This is the standard Phong Nha Cave visit, rather than the separate 4,500m kayaking adventure.
Late afternoon — Transfer to Dong Hoi and hotel check-in
Travel to Dong Hoi and check in at your hotel.
Take time to rest after the day’s visits. Your hotel, room type and sharing arrangement will be confirmed before booking.
Evening — Free time
The evening is free to explore Dong Hoi and choose your own dinner.

Day 2: Dong Hoi – Vinh Moc Tunnels – Hien Luong–Ben Hai – Return

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch.
Morning — Breakfast and hotel checkout
Have breakfast at the hotel and check out at the time advised by your guide.
Bring your luggage for storage in the vehicle, according to the arrangements confirmed by the team.
Depart south towards the former DMZ.
Vinh Moc Tunnels — Stories of life underground
Visit Vinh Moc Tunnels and learn how the underground complex provided shelter and spaces for everyday life during wartime.
Follow the accessible visitor route with your guide. The passages, steps and underground spaces offer a different perspective from the natural caves visited on Day 1.
Tell your guide before entering if you have difficulty with stairs or feel uncomfortable in confined spaces.
Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River
Continue to the Hien Luong–Ben Hai historical site.
Learn about the river’s role in Vietnam’s former division and the significance of the bridge. Your guide will provide historical context, with time for questions, observation and photographs in permitted areas.
Midday — Lunch
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
Rest before travelling to your confirmed finishing point.
Afternoon — Return transfer or continue to Hue
Standard programme: Return to your original agreed pickup point in Dong Hoi or Phong Nha.
Optional Hue transfer: Continue south and finish at the agreed drop-off point in Hue instead of returning north. An additional transfer fee applies and must be confirmed before booking.
Arrival time depends on your finishing point and traffic conditions. Please share any flight, train or onward connection details before booking.
The order and timing of visits may change with traffic, weather, site access and operating conditions.

Paradise Cave involves an uphill approach and steps. Vinh Moc Tunnels has stairs, low lighting and confined passages.

Please discuss any mobility limitations or concerns about enclosed spaces before booking. The team will explain suitable arrangements and any limitations.

One night of hotel accommodation in Dong Hoi is included.

Pickup and return

The standard programme returns to the original agreed pickup point. Pickup in one location and drop-off in another requires advance confirmation.

Optional transfer to Hue

If you wish to finish in Hue, request this when booking.

Which caves are included?

The tour includes the standard sightseeing routes at Paradise Cave and Phong Nha Cave on Day 1.

Does this include Dark Cave or kayaking?

No. The published programme does not include Dark Cave, a mud bath, zipline or kayaking. Please contact us if you would like an alternative cave itinerary.

Is this a strenuous adventure tour?

The programme is primarily sightseeing, but it includes uphill walking, steps and tunnel passages. Tell us about your fitness and mobility concerns so we can assess suitability.

Can I skip the underground section at Vinh Moc?

Please tell us before booking. The team can explain the above-ground visit and any limitations if you prefer not to enter the tunnels.

Can I start in Phong Nha?

Yes, pickup in Phong Nha can be arranged within the confirmed service area. Your pickup time will be confirmed before departure.

Where do we stay overnight?

The proposed programme includes one night in Dong Hoi. The hotel and room arrangements will be confirmed before booking.

Can I finish the tour in Hue?

Yes. An onward transfer to Hue can be arranged for an additional fee instead of the standard return transfer. Please request it before booking.

Can I bring luggage for the transfer to Hue?

Yes, subject to confirmed vehicle capacity. Please provide the number and size of your bags when enquiring.

Does the tour include Khe Sanh Combat Base?

No. The DMZ section focuses on Vinh Moc Tunnels and the Hien Luong–Ben Hai historical site. Adding Khe Sanh requires a revised programme and quotation.

Can I take a flight or train after the tour?

Please send your departure details before booking. The team will assess whether your planned connection allows sufficient time.
